So what might be the biggest strike of academic workers in history kicked off yesterday! 48,000 postdocs, TAs, researchers, tutor, and fellows, all across the UC system. Some great coverage in the LA Times here: https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-11-15/uc-strike-university-of-california-academic-workers

I was on the UCLA campus this past weekend and saw this delivery bot. I was walking across to the building, and the bot was about to cross me and I had an interaction with it where I stopped where it could pass by, but then it paused to let me pass. I'm still trying to wrap my opinion around these things. Also, there's a good episode from Dollface that makes fun of these robots (I surprisingly like this show in a Brechtian distanciation kind of way).

DeleteOn the other hand, the commenters on this TikTok are outraged that the robot crossed the picket line *twice* for working on campus and delivering Starbucks: https://www.tiktok.com/@ethannguyen108/video/7166135387105135915. It seems that the capacity for the robot and its operator (if they can be separated) to join the strike is contested!
