This is quite an old article, but the 2016-2018 Amazon cage scandal immediately came to mind after completing this week’s readings, so I thought I would link the issue here.
TLDR: back in 2016, Amazon filed a patent on a human-sized caged aimed to transport workers across thecompany’s large warehouse spaces.
While this suggestion was eventually dismissed, its inception speaks to Roberts’ assertion that the laboring body is subsumed by the industry. In this case, the workers literally become part of (and are packaged by and into) the factory-line. Scary stuff.
