Blog Post 5 (non-core post) – Maggie Roberts
Response to Rohan’s non-core post (11/8): Thank you for linking this (and feeding my unhealthy TikTok addiction)! I had no clue that Netflix personalized cover and promotional art based on their data collection. What I found compelling, from the poster’s brief description of how the algorithm works, is that it seems to weigh genre over star-power. From a film studies perspective, this provides insight into how film and media is more largely understood by the public, as well as what kind of critical factors play into its promotion and proliferation (e.g., genre studies, auteur theory, fan studies, star studies, etc.). Thank you again for sharing!
